I REALLY love your unique approach of narration, as well as the retro art style! I played this game with my followers and we all think the "Press S to sleep" part is really unique and bring us an immersive experience. Great job, We LOVE it^^!!

nice game, the ending got me confused tho

This was super unique and so much fun! The aesthetic of the game, with the sounds, environment and story really went well together! Loved every moment of it. It was super fun to pay and the story develops really well and in such a creepy, yet a cool way. The look of the game makes everything so creepy and the sounds made it even alluring but scarier in a great way.

The only thing I would suggest is that the reveal that the plant was the big evil should have been more alluded to. There wasn't enough pointing towards that direction, or at least I think so. Other than that, the story, and everything else was done really well and it was an incredibly great game!

Thanks for playing! I watched your playthrough a couple weeks ago. As for allusion, there are loads of hints (some maybe too subtle...) that contribute to the underlying story, including: the colour of the people, the lack of bird sounds/fish/insects, the notebook, effects congruent with cordyceps, the propensity of the tribe members to use tactile descriptors, the way Arthur has an idle animation but tribe members don't, etc. Glad you enjoyed!

Did notice the powder and the blue on the people and they were good subtle allusions to what was to come! Didn't notice the animation and super silence as once though, that's really neat!

really cool! great aesthetic and style, love the visual format, just really looks and plays great! how....do you figure out the buried box.............!!!

A solid self-contained story, reads like an excellent campfire spooky story; I did enjoy the eerie graphics and the lack of cheap jump-scares that let the unsettling environment do the scare while everything seems to be doing "just fine",

I love point and click games, specially horror ones,  the digging definitely adds a lot of gameplay so is just not plain reading. And I am not gonna spoil anything but, that ending was the perfect conclusion. for all the build up tension.

Keep up the good work!

Loving the games coming out from this Dev -

Watch the video here:

The narrative immersion grabs you as soon as the game starts and the genuine feeling of anxiety from meeting the first tribesperson generally made me feel unsettled throughout the whole course of the game.

Unfortunately on this playthrough I didn't get the secret ending, (without spoilers) was there anything in the game that would have revealed the code to the lockbox? I think I may have missed it!

Pros:

  • Rich and detailed narrative - providing a sense of uneasiness and foreboding throughout the adventure.
  • The mystery of the island and its inhabitants is a very talked about subject at the moment, with Cordyceps being a main theme. Has a stylised sense of Andrei Tarkovsky about it.
  • Sleep Mechanic, just like in Pleonexia is a great addition to an already highly stressful situation. Great DS feel to the whole thing, with text being at the bottom and illustrative screens on top.

Cons:

  • My character was named Hugh ;)
  • Was there a way to find the combination of the lock box in-game? 'Digging' the Metal Gear Solid fourth wall breaking, and I may have missed it from some other clue, but on first impression felt like I'd missed something pivotal and important.

Can't wait for the next one! Also @whilegameisfalse if you would like an anthology of similarly creepy stories, DM me over at twitter @horrorable666!

Thanks again for playing! Made this game before I knew that the Last of Us featured the same fungus, so you figured it out quite quickly haha. The combination to the locked box can be found in two places; it's in the text file included in the zip file, but the Morse code is also played as audio in the background during the credits of the normal ending. You might get a DM from me soon!

Hmm... it says you can't be messaged. You might need to check the 'allow messages from everyone' option in settings

Ah, I've been away for the last couple of days - just saw this. Have changed the settings - feel free to try again!

Excellent short-lenght experience, very rich and genuinely unnerving storytelling.

The use of the medium with the "blink and you'll miss it" details to convey the nightmare aspect has to be my favorite part. Both the simplicity as well as the more complex aspects of the visuals add a lot to the darkness of the world-building.

This one was a very pleasant surprise, it's stuff like this that make this site worthwhile.

Love to hear when people enjoy my stuff!

As soon as I finished it I knew I had to let you know how much I liked everything that I mentioned. Completely stoked to see your future projects.

I loved it.

The sleeping mechanic is simply brilliant. Just waiting for a few seconds more before letting go of the button had me all tense!

Fantastic work.

Thanks! Worked as intended.

So I think I encountered a bug?

First off I would just like to say this was interesting! Very nice little game here. Heard about your game from "Horror Games Community" on Twitter.

I got to the cave and the professor did his thing, I had the mask on and was able to leave the cave but then I couldn't do anything? Walked around the area and I could look at stuff, but I was unable to activate the helicopter? Not sure if I left the scene too quickly? Not sure what happened.

Thank you for checking it out! I'm super grateful for the attention I've received from the Horror Games Community twitter. I'm sorry to hear you encountered that bug! I've been sick & haven't been checking this regularly, but I'll look into the issue. I hate that you went out of your way to get the second ending and it didn't work. I'll let you know when it's fixed if you still want to see the ending.

I think I found the bug you got, and it completely prevented the second ending from working... I don't think anyone who downloaded v1.0.1 got to see the second ending, which is a bit sad. All part of learning to be a dev. It's fixed now.

All good! Thanks for fixing it, I'll have to look at it again to see the ending!

It's awesome to see new ideas and projects being worked on. I also have been wanting to make games. Thanks for putting your work out there!

Amazing Game!

Played this game in my stream, i really liked this game and the glitchy/mysterious style of the game. I would recommend it for gamers that like Garage Heathen style of horror games.

Thanks, glad you liked it! Is there any way I can watch the stream?

No, my stream did not get saved lol. It was on twitch. Is this your first game? Its amazing i really like games like this. Looking forward to more lol
